Kellie-Anne Poirier shares the below about her single Legacy,
ALS (also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease) is a degenerative disease that tackles the nervous system and weakens muscles, impacting physical function. Nerve cells break down, which reduces functionality in the muscles they supply. It’s very rare and there’s no cure as of now. My friend John has been battling ALS for few years now. There is not enough awareness spread about this disease and it’s horrible effect. This project and song means so much to me because of this. I want to raise more awareness on ALS and hopefully be a fraction of the reason for a cure. More research has to be done so we can find a cure and I need your help. —PLEASE GO TO Alsa.org AND DONATE — I hope you guys enjoy this song as much as I enjoyed making it, and that you can help me make the lives of these patients and their families better
In this interview spotlight, I chat with Kellie-Anne about the release, challenges, technology and more.
Full Q&A along with links and music below.
Where are you from and what style of music do you create? (In your own words, not necessarily in marketing terms or by popular genre classifications.)
I am originally from Quebec City in Canada, and I create soul-pop music. My goal is to create powerful and motivational music that has a purpose.
What led you down this path of music and what motivates you to keep going?
I have always loved music ever since I can remember. I began being a guitarist and then made my way to singing and accompanying myself. I recently discovered my love for song-writing and the process of creating a piece of music. My motivation to keep going is all of the amazing supporters I have in my life, and my desire to keep improving and learning more about music.
How is this new release different than previous ones? Were you trying to accomplish anything specific?
This release was very important to me. It was different in the sense that I really wanted to accomplish something with the video and the song. My goal was to spread awareness and educate people on ALS and the overall impact of the disease.
Name one or two challenges you face as an indie musician in this over saturated, digital music age? How has technology helped you (since we know it does help)?
One challenge that I definitely encounter is the lack of diversity in music creation. I tend to have many new ideas but am too afraid to release any music that I do not feel will be enjoyed by pop culture. Technology has helped me in that I have been able to do a lot of music from home and meet many amazing artists on social media that inspire me daily. Another challenge is the pressure to stay very active on social media and post pictures and videos that, once again, I believe my public will enjoy. This can be stressful because I can’t always show who I really am to my followers and I often feel pressure to skew what I would post because of this.
What was the last song you listened to?
Redbone by Childish Gambino
Which do you prefer? Vinyl? CDs? MP3s?
As it is much more convenient for me, and I enjoy listening to music everywhere I go, MP3 is probably my best bet.
How about this one…. Do you prefer Spotify? Apple Music? Bandcamp? Or something else? Why?
I definitely love Spotify the best. I adore making different playlists depending on my mood and listening to music while doing daily activities.
Where is the best place to connect with you online and discover more music?
Definitely on Instagram (@kellieanne.music) or through my professional email (@kellieannepoirier) for those type of inquiries. I try to answer all of my DM’s and emails!
