Four-piece rock band, Kamora, are thrilled to announce the release of their debut single Wild Thing, out now!
Having met in 2016, writing and playing together intermittently, the band officially formed this year. Taking the decision to write and rehearse together weekly, honing their skills as performers and songwriter, Kamora were on a mission to make a real success of the band.
It wasn’t long before the fruits of their labour began to filter into the music they created, highlighted by their impressive debut release. Wild Things is an anthemic rock song that takes from classic rock conventions and blends them with the brooding, earthy vocals of lead singer Max Murphy. Memorable hooks are enriched by atmospheric keys and chunky guitar segments, all held together neatly by an impressively tight rhythm section.
In this interview spotlight, I chat with Kamora about their music, technology, challenges and more.

Let’s dive a little deeper into You, the artist and your music. What attracted you to this genre(s) or style(s)?
Each individual member has a unique musical background. Therefore, as a band we have a wide variety of influences. These range predominately from Indie-Rock, Hip Hop, Metal & Blues. We think the result is a colourful, Alt-Rock blend that your gran could still enjoy, but is mostly aimed at your rebellious teenage son & daughter.
What led you into this journey with music? And further, what drives you to push it out to the public?
We are four friends who are passionate about writing energetic & exciting Rock Music. We love writing and playing together. We believe our ideas have real potential and therefore we want to capture people and hopefully, in some way, make a positive difference. What excites us most is the knowing that our best songs probably haven’t even been written yet.
Who or what influences your creativity? Have your tastes in music changed over time?
Definitely! We believe our music tastes have evolved & matured together as a band. Since meeting, our musical interests and tastes have begun to ‘rub off’ on each other. Johnny Cash meets Metallica.
Were you trying to accomplish anything specific on this new project? Creatively or otherwise?
Initially ‘Wild Thing’ started off as a catchy lead guitar riff and developed from there. The song is upbeat & energetic in sound, yet it is themed around how difficult it can be to untangle yourself from a toxic relationship. It was written with a close friend in mind. We had witnessed how harmful & negative his relationship was, & how the longer it went on the less able he seemed to be to remove himself from it. It’s about finding the courage to remove yourself from the things & people that don’t benefit you. It’s hard to think clearly in a toxic relationship.
What was the last song you listened to?
‘Not’ by Big Thief (Live on The Late Show).
Which do you prefer? Vinyl? CDs? MP3s?
CD’s. We love to whack on a CD in the car and listen to it from start to finish. We recently got a hold of a Chuck Berry 4-part CD bundle. That guy had a lot of material. We’ll have to plan a trip around Europe to make our way through it…
How about this one…. Do you prefer Spotify? Apple Music? Bandcamp? Or something else? Why?
Deezer. It seems to be the loudest and sharpest quality of all the streaming sites, although we predominantly use Spotify as it’s the most interactive & helpful for upcoming bands like us.
Other than the digital era overwhelming us with access to an abundance of music, what is the biggest challenge you face when trying to connect with or find new fans?
Social media has its pros & cons. Although it is a great way to connect with fans, it has made everyone, us included, grow impatient. Sometimes you only get a split second to grab someone’s attention. Therefore, you really have to have nail the visuals (Photography, artwork, videoclips etc) or else you will just get washed away in all the traffic.
Where is the best place to connect with you online? Discover more music?
We are mostly active on Facebook & Instagram. We upload new songs/ideas & content regularly on both. Catch us at @wearekamora.
