Venezuela native guitarist, singer/songwriter and producer Joemayk began his music journey in 1999. After a move to Spain and then to England, Joemayk decided it was time to try composing songs in English. With several releases under his belt, including singles and EPs, Joemayk has delivered his latest release, What Fate Holds.
In this interview spotlight, I chat with Joemayk about the latest music, challenges, technology and more.
With catchy melodies, a driving acoustic guitar rhythm, and an uplifting energy, What Fate Holds maintains a balance between Americana and acoustic driven Pop Rock.

Where are you from and what style of music do you create? (In your own words, not necessarily in marketing terms or by popular genre classifications.)
I come from an small town near to Caracas, Venezuela. I moved to the city of Madrid in 2004, where I have resided since then and where I have developed a large part of my professional career, combined with stays in the city of London, UK. Both cities have been key in the musical style that has marked my third and last project so far, which has led to my music to be a mellifluous mix of Americana-Rock / Country Rock / and touches that evoke and are reminiscent of classic British Pop Rock.
What led you down this path of music and what motivates you to keep going?
From a young age I felt the need to write and compose. When I was 15 years old I started to produce my own songs with little means. Music has always been present in my day to day, that is my only guide. When the music is so present inside you don’t need anything else to keep going
How is this new release different than previous ones? Were you trying to accomplish anything specific?
My previous releases contained the essence of what my music could be, but without really specifying a style of my own, which I consider to have found in these latest works, as a lower register in my voice, more prominence in my guitars and a different hook in the rythm.
Name one or two challenges you face as an indie musician in this over saturated, digital music age? How has technology helped you (since we know it does help)?
Distribution! I never thought it could be so difficult to get your music to the right audience. The different digital media and tools help you, but on many occasions they can be a double-edged sword if you don’t know how to direct it in the right way.
What was the last song you listened to?
Heroes- David Bowie
Which do you prefer? Vinyl? CDs? MP3s?
I love vinyl but with the streaming MP3 format I have discovered music that I would never have heard on vinyl in this or the next life
How about this one…. Do you prefer Spotify? Apple Music? Bandcamp? Or something else? Why?
Any platform can be very good to discover if you spend the necessary time on it, but Spotify may take first place, because it is the one that has helped me to obtain a greater number of followers and reproductions.
Where is the best place to connect with you online and discover more music?
I’m mostly on socials now showing the steps of my creation process, so, i must say Instagram and facebook
and i’m sharing too playlists with the music that inspire me on my spotify profile
Spotify : https://open.spotify.com/artist/1ZbEMhpab3tegIsvl070si?si=A6gQRM-vROKYgLEDpzaPvw
Anything else before we sign off?
Lately the phrase with which I close each interview, with which I want to close each concert and that I would like to repeat to every inhabitant of this planet is: “music is the answer”. it’s now my favorite hashtag,
Unfortunately these days, many people stop giving importance to the content we consume, turning it into a content to use and throw away. Music has marked great moments in history, music has been transcendental in our way of behaving, dressing, walking, meaning, that’s why we must pay more attention to music that makes this world a better place, now more than we never need it.
