In this interview spotlight, I chat with Jangle Orchard about the latest project, challenges, technology and more.
Full Q&A along with music and links below.
Where are you from and how do You describe your style of music?
I live in Kalamazoo, Michigan. My music is heavily informed by 60’s Rock and 90’s Indie, with the occasional touch of Jazz – mainly in the chords I use.
How did you get here? As in, what inspired or motivated you to take on this journey through music and the music biz?
When I was in college, I wanted to pursue music as my career, but I ended up becoming a teacher instead: first a guitar instructor and then a college English instructor. I had recorded some music in my college years, but when the pandemic happened and I had to work from home, I started recording again.
How does your latest project compare/contrast with your previous release(s)? Were you setting out to accomplish anything specific, follow a specific theme, or explore different styles of creation?
My latest album features more pop and folk influences than my first album. I was listening to a lot of 60’s Baroque Pop, Folk, and Psychedelic Rock, and I wanted to incorporate those influences. This album featured all new songs, as opposed to my first album, which was a blend of songs I had written over the years and ones I had just recently written.
Name the biggest challenge you faced as a creative during these unprecedented? How did you adapt? How have you kept the creative fires burning during all this?
For me the biggest challenge is balancing my full-time teaching job with other aspects of my life in order to still have time to record.
What was the last song you listened to?
The Dovers “What Am I Gonna Do”
Which do you prefer? Vinyl? 8-tracks? Cassettes? CDs? MP3s? Streaming platforms?
Vinyl is my all-time favorite, but I grew up listening to cassettes and then cd’s.
Where is the best place to connect with you and follow your journey?
My bandcamp page is the best way to follow me, but you can also connect with me via Twitter, my web page, or via email.
