In this interview spotlight, I chat with Human Brain about the latest music, challenges, technology and more.
Full Q&A along with links and music below.
Where are you from and what style of music do you create? (In your own words, not necessarily in marketing terms or by popular genre classifications.)
I’m from San Jose, California. I’d best describe my music as melodic progressive rock/metal. Quite a mouthful I know, but I’ve always been big on blending the genres I’ve loved most throughout my life which inspire my writing at every stage.
What led you down this path of music and what motivates you to keep going?
Music has always been my favorite outlet for expression. I started playing guitar when I was 10 years old and writing a few years later. I grew up listening to the Big 4 thrash bands, Guns N’ Roses, AC/DC and Zep practically on repeat daily.
How is this new release different than previous ones? Were you trying to accomplish anything specific?
2020 was a particularly rough year for so many of us in the world, so I felt the need to express the pain I’ve experienced personally while never losing sight over the importance of hanging on to hope through spirituality and the strength of our most sacred relationships both near and far that have the power to sustain with the universe being the glue that holds them together despite the all the threats of destruction to its foundation that surround us.
Name one or two challenges you face as an indie musician in this oversaturated, digital music age? How has technology helped you (since we know it does help)?
Not being able to perform live during the pandemic and the significant impact it has had on widespread adoption of new music. The digital age has helped many of us bypass this hurdle by providing such a vast marketing platform for meaningful distribution, but it’s becoming increasingly difficult to connect with listeners on the same wavelength without that live performance component.
What was the last song you listened to?
“Dust” by Tremonti
Which do you prefer? Vinyl? CDs? MP3s?
Vinyl
How about this one…. Do you prefer Spotify? Apple Music? Bandcamp? Or something else? Why?
Apple Music
Where is the best place to connect with you online and discover more music?
Reverbnation
