Pop singer-songwriter, Gabriele Kysel, has released her latest single, “Lover Boy.” Her second single of the year is a moving piano ballad lamenting lost love.
The new track features Gabriele’s lush vocals and emotional keys, building to an epic soundscape of indie pop heartbreak.
“‘Lover Boy’ is a song that was inspired by relationships that end on a positive note, but also with heartbreak,” says Kysel. “When you are hurt and angry, but feel like you can’t communicate it, because it feels out counterproductive and out of place. When people let you down easy, the hurt you feel remains inside.”
In this interview spotlight, I chat with Gabriele about the latest release, how it compares to other projects and more.
Full Q&A along with links and music below.
What’s something you’d like readers to know about your latest project?
G: That it is different from my previous releases, but still fits my sound.
How does “Lover Boy” compare with your other release this year, “Home?” Was there anything specific you were trying to accomplish?
G: “Lover Boy” holds a different contrast from “Home”. It follows a different theme as far as the storyline goes. For the sound of the song, it definitely fits well with “Home”, and also can exist on its own. I was trying to accomplish and showcase that I can write and create all types of songs, while holding onto my sound.
What motivates you to create music?
G: Music heals. It has healed a lot of the pains that I have been through. Music unites. I think that it’s awesome how one song, one artist, one album can bring so many different people together. Being part of this is truly inspiring, even if my music heals or relates to one person it is still worth it.
What’s one of your first or most powerful music memories? Did that play any role in driving you to create?
G: One of my favorite, favorite memories was during Christmas when I was around 5. We were celebrating Christmas with the whole family and we had this piano at home. I couldn’t play the piano at the time, but I was so drawn to it, that I decided that I would sit down and try playing. Most of the sounds that I was playing, they didn’t go well together. But then I managed to accidentally play a chord, I don’t remember what chord it was, all I remember was that my whole face lit up. This definitely played into driving me to write music.
If you could collaborate with anyone – dead or alive, famous or unknown – who would it be and why?
G: This is a hard question, cause there is so many amazing and inspirational artists. My answer is Lana Del Rey, the music she creates is art. She has been a huge inspiration of mine and honestly it would be an honor to work with her. She is definitely one of my favorite artists.
What was the last song you listened to? And who is one of your favorite all-time bands/artists?
G:Green Light by Lorde, which is one of my favorite songs.
Taylor Swift is up there, she has inspired me on so many different levels, music wise, business wise. She is definitely one of the greatest.
Where is the best place to find you and stay connected?
G: You can find me on all social media platforms, but instagram and tiktok are the ones I am most on. I have been planning to be more active on tumblr too, so watch out for more content there!
I really appreciate Your time. Anything else before we sign off?
G: Thank you for this interview! Hope you have a great day!
