Faithless Town is an original rock band that formed in Atlanta. Funded by fans through a successful Kickstarter campaign, their first full-length album, American Refugee (2012) featured the single “Ghosts Of My Hometown” which received FM radio play throughout the American Southeast. Their sophomore album, EMPIRES, featuring the singles “California Come Home” & “New World Order” was released by Spectra Records in 2020.
Faithless Town has played some of the most famous stages in the country, including The Whisky a Go Go and The Viper Room. They have also supported such acts as Chris Knight, Graham Colton, and Jake Clemons of Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band.
Faithless Town’s new record, Into The Light vol.1, is the first part of a new, two-part album. When played together the E.P.s will comprise sides A and B of a full-length album.
In this interview spotlight, I chat with Faithless Town about the new album, musical memories, motivations and more.
Full Q&A along with links and music below.
What’s something you’d like readers to know about your latest project?
Our new record, Into The Light Vol.1, is the first part of a new, two-part album both of which will be released in 2022. When played together the E.P.s will comprise sides A and B of a full-length album. Into The Light Vol. 1 was released on April 29th. Vol. 2 will be released in the fall of 2022. Vol. 1 features the singles “Live Free”, “Coal Mining Man”, and “What I’m Dreaming Of”. It’s available now everywhere digital music is sold and streamed.
How does this project compare with your other release(s)? Was there anything specific you were trying to accomplish?
We’ve never set out to make a two part album before so I would say that’s something that is unique about this newest release. The first part, Into The Light Vol.1, is a collection of big, loud rock songs whereas Volume 2 will consist of more stripped down, folky, acoustic songs.
What motivates you to create music?
For me, creating music is a sacred thing. When I’m writing a song I feel like something is working through me and that I’m fulfilling some higher purpose. It might sound silly to some, but Rock N Roll is my religion. As for inspiration, that can come in many forms, from an article I read or just from observing the world around me.
What’s one of your first or most powerful music memories? Did that play any role in driving you to create?
I think listening to the oldies station that my parents would play in the car was one of my first musical memories. The sounds of the early Beatles, Stones, Monkees, and Motown flooded my young ears and mind. I think that years later all that music helped inform the type of songs I write. I’m always looking to create something with a memorable melody and a catchy hook. I would also watch reruns of The Monkees TV show when I was a kid and dream about being in a band.
If you could collaborate with anyone – dead or alive, famous or unknown – who would it be and why? If it’s an indie/DIY artist, please include a link so readers can check them out.
Probably Sam Cooke because I think he had the most amazing voice. His song, “A Change Is Gonna Come”, always gives me chills when I hear it.
What was the last song you listened to? And who is one of your favorite all-time bands/artists?
The last song I listened to was “Running Up That Hill” by Kate Bush. Like a lot of folks I just recently discovered that song thanks to Stranger Things and ever since I’ve been obsessed with it. My all time favorite singer is Sam Cooke and my all time favorite band is The Doors.
