In this interview spotlight, I chat with members of Everyone Lies about their latest music, adapting during lock downs, technology and more.
Full Q&A along with links and music below.
Where are you from and how do You describe your style of music?
Ben – We are from Hampshire in the UK. Our style of music is melodic punk rock. We certainly like to play it fast too.
How did you get here? As in, what inspired or motivated you to take on this journey through music and the music biz?
Ben – We have been in bands for many years and after a spell away from the scene we decided to start a new band in 2019. Little did we know what the next 2 years were going to bring.
Locky – For me I have always dreamed of playing in a punk band and getting out there in the punk scene, it’s the music that inspired me to pick up some sticks for the first time, so to finally be doing that with the coolest dudes means alot.
How does your latest project compare/contrast with your previous release(s)? Were you setting out to accomplish anything specific, follow a specific theme, or explore different styles of creation?
Ben – To be totally honest the bands we have been in before probably took different directions we were all comfortable with. In Everyone Lies we are all on the same path of writing music we all enjoy to play. We think this then allows us to put everything in to it and when playing live it’s clear to an audience we enjoy what we are doing.
Locky – As Ben says we are all fully on the same page, we’re all in a very similar stage in our lives so we fully understand each other and each others personal commitments, there’s no pressure and it’s just fun which is what it should be.
Name the biggest challenge you faced as a creative during these unprecedented? How did you adapt? How have you kept the creative fires burning during all this?
Ben – The unprecedented times we have had over the past 2 years has been tough. We started this band just before the first lockdown and it took the wind from our sails hugely. Over the 2 years in lockdown we continued to write over media platforms available to us and when we were able to, we headed into the Ranch Production house in Southampton UK with producer Daly George (Creeper/Boston Manor) and laid down some material to release.
What was the last song you listened to?
Ben – The last song I listened to was Face to Face “Disconnected” I have a huge playlist on Spotify that I put on when out and about, I hit shuffle and away we go. Love Face to Face, real influence on me as a guitarist and song writer.
Locky – The last song I listened to was Turn it of… Rip the knobs off by Slagerij. We were fortunate enough to share the stage with them recently supporting Whitmore, Ever since that gig I have had Slagerij on repeat. I have always had a huge love for ska music and love ska influenced punk, so check these guys out if you’re into that.
Which do you prefer? Vinyl? 8-tracks? Cassettes? CDs? MP3s? Streaming platforms?
Ben – I still buy CDs. I love to have a physical copy of the music I love and also want to support the music industry where I can. Got a few vinyls of older music but I do enjoy the streaming platforms also. I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea but for bands like us, it has helped us get music out there.
Locky – Same as Ben, I love a CD! Love the physical copy of a good album. However I do use streaming platforms, as everything is on there nowadays.
Where is the best place to connect with you and follow your journey?
Ben – You can find everything related to us from our linktree site www.linktree.com/everyoneliesband. One stop shop for all things Everyone Lies.
I really appreciate Your time. Anything else before we sign off?
Ben – Thank you so much for taking the time to chat. We really appreciate all the support and look forward to seeing people when we are out on the road.
Locky – Thank you very much, it means alot.
