The impressive four piece Italian outfit Eugenia Post Meridiem have returned with their next slice of eclectic perfection. With hints of surf pop threaded throughout, helped with the infectious guitar motif ‘around my neck’ is the second single taken from the highly intriguing album project that dropped November 18th.
A kaleidoscopic medley of flavours, breakdowns, switch ups and builds, ‘around my neck’ is yet another demonstration of EPM’s exceptional, tasteful talents and unshakeable chemistry as a band. With just enough variation to keep listeners hooked and tentatively resting on the edge of their seat all whilst remaining seamlessly cohesive and mellifluously fluid. A feat often attempted but rarely mastered with such ease and authenticity.
In this interview spotlight, I chat with Eugenia Post Meridiem about the latest release, dream collabs, motivations and more.
Full Q&A along with links and music below.
What’s something you’d like readers to know about your latest project?
We’d like to say that one of our desires is to be considered kids who still have to get big, cause everything we do and spread to the world has always that mixed taste of nostalgia, jokes and mistakes. We pass hours and hours making fun and complaining about our past choices… and this is not only stupid how it seems, it makes sense to us just because we find that tension and anger of growing up and getting adult.
How does this project compare with your other release(s)? Was there anything specific you were trying to accomplish?
With our latest releases we tried to jump out a few musical behaviour and preconceptions we absorbed and applied to our music. The goal is to get the easiness with uneasiness. Simple, not easy.
What motivates you to create music?
To us create music is a way to experiece art in a more contemplative mood. Our stile is an attempt to slow down the frenetic rythm of our times and rebound all the pieces that make ourself. And above all it something that make us feel in armony with many things of this world.
What’s one of your first or most powerful music memories? Did that play any role in driving you to create?
For us one of our most powerful music memories all together was to spend one month in Berlin to record our first album “In Her Bones”. That was a key experience that allowed us to think more as musicians and composers open to wider contaminations.
If you could collaborate with anyone – dead or alive, famous or unknown – who would it be and why? If it’s an indie/DIY artist, please include a link so readers can check them out.
Probably “Verdena”. They are an Italian band raised and formed just after grunge explosion. They are always able to rediscuss their stile often swimming against the mainstream. https://open.spotify.com/track/1rXT400YaPoCATvPou5b4c?si=xiuKccHYSjq0-kz054rGKg
What was the last song you listened to? And who is one of your favorite all-time bands/artists?
We’ve just listened to Lotus 72 by Zé Roberto, we’re totally lost for Brasilian music and this song is going to be a warm up track played on the stage before our show. Debussy?
Where is the best place to find you and stay connected?
Mediterranean sea.
I really appreciate Your time. Anything else before we sign off?
Thanks for Your time and that of whoever is gonna read this and listen to our music.
