In this interview spotlight, I chat with The Endangered Species about the forthcoming album release, challenges, technology and more.
Full Q&A along with links and music below.
Where are you from and what style of music do you create? (In your own words, not necessarily in marketing terms or by popular genre classifications.)
Wade Divver was born in Contreras, New Mexico in the back of his hippie parents school bus. Robin Divver was born at home on Rock & Roll Rd. in Hereford, Arizona. The two brothers currently live and have lived in Atlanta, GA for the past eighteen years.
What led you down this path of music and what motivates you to stay the course?
Music is in our blood and written in our stars. Ever since we were kids we grow up with the living room being filled with instruments. Our parents always had a band room and some type of band thrown together. Music was a big part of our lives. We were literally raised on Rock & Roll Rd., which our parents named to give warning to any potential new home buyers to understand what they should expect if they moved out near us. We lived down a four mile dirt road in the middle of nowhere one mile off the U.S./ Mexico border. Music is a part of life in our family. We have always been passionate about the song writing process and honestly its just always come very natural to us.
How is your new release different than previous ones? Did you set out to accomplish anything specific?
Our new record encompasses numerous genres of music. Each one of our songs is its own unique piece. We stray away from creating records that sound like one big song. We want to hit the listener from all types of angles and evoke all the elements of emotions in our record. This record fuses blues, southern rock, alternative rock, and a little taste of country.
Do you face any challenges as an indie musician in a digital age? On the flip side, how has technology helped you (if it has)?
It is challenging getting noticed in the vast ocean of music out there. There are a lot of great musicians out there and talent, and some not so great musicians and talents. It can be tough for people to give a band they never heard of the opportunity for a listen, but we are very thankful when they do.
