R&B artist Elle Anido has released her bold new track “Fake”.
The artist holds nothing back as she calls out people who are two-faced through her fierce lyrics and confident sound. “Fake” is an anthem for anyone who has been wronged by a fake friend or significant other. It combines classic rap beats with modern pop elements resulting in a fun track to blast with your friends this spring and summer. Elle A worked with producer Adriaan from TO after connecting over social media and immediately bonding over similar creative styles.
The charged up energy of the track gives people the courage to say “thank you, next” to anyone that is trying to take advantage of kindness. Elle A is an advocate for standing up for yourself and calling out anyone who underestimates you or hates on your successes.
In this interview spotlight, I chat with Elle about the new release, challenges, technology and more.
Full Q&A along with links and music below.
Where are you from and what style of music do you create? (In your own words, not necessarily in marketing terms or by popular genre classifications.)
I am Elle A, I am from Ottawa Canada and I make trappy pop music.
What led you down this path of music and what motivates you to keep going?
I knew I wanted to be an entertainer by the age of 3. A family friend left a piano on our front doorsteps and I started figuring out melodies and Broadway songs I liked. The rest is history.
I stay motivated because I still feel inspired, I still have music that comes to me at night when I should be sleeping and I feel like there is really nothing else out there for me. Music is my one true love.
How is this new release different than previous ones? Were you trying to accomplish anything specific?
This project is my first full album. At first, I felt this was something very daunting. It is different because I can see the progress I have made in terms of songwriting and recording from when I started a few years ago. I feel like I have been on a steady workflow of creativity. Now I see the project coming together cohesively and it is very exciting. The main thing that I want to achieve is to have my friends and family actually vibe to my music. That gives me so much life. I really want people to hear my proverbial voice through these songs and hopefully understand me as an artist and relate to my music.
Name one or two challenges you face as an indie musician in this over saturated, digital music age? How has technology helped you (since we know it does help)?
There is a lot of great music that is so underrated out there and Soundcloud is a dope way to expose yourself to thousands of artists from all over the world. Most of the music I hear on the radio is garbage. I used to think that monetization was the only way to calculate success in music. I used to tell myself “I need to make a million dollars by the time I’m 20 or else my career is over.” I quit at 20 and it was the most depressing time in my life to this day. Whoever said money is the sole purpose of making music is clearly not a true artist. I would not still be doing this if it was for the money trust mel. I think social media allows artists to curate their own image and represent themselves the way they want to online which is so important because people get to see who they are, what they look like, what type of fashion they are into, and then can relate to them or not; essentially you can create your own brand. The ability to link socials to your music pages is such an amazing tool and I think it enables you to build your own community around what you are doing
What was the last song you listened to?
The last song I listened to was 3:26am off my upcoming album. But I was bumping Nightmare by Halsey all night.
Which do you prefer? Vinyl? CDs? MP3s?
I would have to say I like mp3’s the most because all my music is in my phone and I cannot really do anything “real life” related without my music on me. CD’s are nostalgic to me because growing up those were great. My first CD was Step by Step by New Kids on The Block and freaking I loved it. But there is nothing that can compare to the sound of a Vinyl playing some old school funk or jazz, so all are important in my opinion.
How about this one…. Do you prefer Spotify? Apple Music? Bandcamp? Or something else? Why?
I think it depends on what you are looking for. I personally like Apple Music for new music and bigger artists because that is just what I subscribe to however it is limiting when it comes to lesser known indie artists. Bandcamp is good for looking up underground artists.
Where is the best place to connect with you online and discover more music?
The best place to connect with me is definitely Instagram. I post all my upcoming news, shows, new releases, jokes, tea spills, cute pictures and more on my story and in my posts.
Anything else before we sign off?
