Ambient pop outfit Dream Estate return with the re-release of their single You, taken from their debut EP The Love We Shared, out now.
Lead singer William Tse explains “the theme behind the song is insecure love. Its about not being able to judge a situation which could end with a happy ending, or an endless spiral of heartbreak and dependancy.” The single is filled with soaring electronic beats, subtle guitar sounds and ethereal harmonies akin to the likes of Bon Iver and The Japanese House.
In this interview spotlight, we chat with Dream Estate about the new release, challenges, motivations, the digital music world and more.

Let’s dive a little deeper into You, the artist and your music. What attracted you to this genre(s) or style(s)?
We are all into minimalistic music as we love the use of layering which we apply to our own songwriting. We think ambient pop is a style of music that can be listened to at any moment, and you can enjoy it no matter what mood you’re in.
What led you into this journey with music? And further, what drives you to push it out to the public?
We’ve all loved music our whole lives and have wanted to pursue it from a young age. When we became friends, creating music together was just the natural thing to do. Some of us have been writing together for over 7 years. Plus, we love hearing fans have enjoyed our music and nothing compares to the feeling of performing together on stage.
Who or what influences your creativity? Have your tastes in music changed over time?
Most of our band members are at uni with other musicians and are surrounded by new and different influences all the time. New music is always being created and so music tastes will always change. There are some new songs we love just as much as our old favourites, so I guess it’s all down to the song really.
Were you trying to accomplish anything specific on this new project? Creatively or otherwise?
Thats something you guys will have to look out for, a lot of it is open to perspective. But we have seriously upped our game on this project, and can’t wait for you to hear and see what we’ve been working on.
What was the last song you listened to?
I’m n Pieces by Hall and Oates – it’s a great shower song!
Which do you prefer? Vinyl? CDs? MP3s?
Obviously MP3s and CDs are the most practical, but you just can’t beat the sound of a vinyl.
How about this one…. Do you prefer Spotify? Apple Music? Bandcamp? Or something else? Why?
I think I’d have to say Spotify. It’s the most user-friendly and I love the playlist feature. It’s interesting to see what other people are listening to too!
Other than the digital era overwhelming us with access to an abundance of music, what is the biggest challenge you face when trying to connect with or find new fans?
I guess it’s harder to reach out to people outside our age group given a lot of our promoting focuses on social media, on which most of our friends and followers are young adults. We live in a student area and are at the stage in our lives where social interactions rarely extend to those outside the student bubble.
