Where are you from and what style of music do you create? (In your own words, not necessarily in marketing terms or by popular genre classifications.)
I am from Worcester, MA and produce electric rock guitar vocal music
with an EDM twist to it.
What led you down this path of music and what motivates you to keep going?
I’ve been immersed in a world of music since a young age and it is my true passion in life. At the age of 44 I find that keeping on challenging myself musically and having fun with it keeps me young!
How is this new release different than previous ones? Were you trying to accomplish anything specific?
I wanted to have the guitar playing be more staccato and rhythmical. Lyric wise I wanted to be more fun and candid as with the first two songs. But then also more profound with afterlife and other concepts of spirituality and reflection with the later 3 songs.
The overall sound production is better on Mix 3.. in fact I’m finishing up re-producing Mix 1 and Mix 2 songs complete with new vocals and all because of how my perspective changed after producing Mix 3.
Name one or two challenges you face as an indie musician in this oversaturated, digital music age? How has technology helped you (since we know it does help)?
Well it’s great to potentially be able to forge your own success.. but the web is a major time and money suck. It feels overwhelming to market yourself when you’re on a budget.
What was the last song you listened to?
My own songs actually… I’ve only been listening to my own music lately but also find myself Spotifying around EDM, hip hop and rock metal genres… some pop too. I just can’t speciify any one song really.
Which do you prefer? Vinyl? CDs? MP3s?
I prefer mp3’s but utilize vinyl emulation in my master tracks… tape too. I like digital but totally dig vintage analog sounding gear… I’m an audiophile to some degree.
How about this one…. Do you prefer Spotify? Apple Music? Bandcamp? Or something else? Why?
I love Spotify for their playlists.. awesome community. BandCamp is great for pre-releasing music before it hits the e-stores. I sometimes ‘fix’ things after releasing to BandCamp and re-upload within the first couple weeks. Then I submit to e-stores.
Where is the best place to connect with you online and discover more music?
My website distortedmix.com is a good starting point. I link out to important places from there.
Anything else before we sign off?
I plan on releasing Mix 4 songs in January 2019. Mix 5 songs should be out by April 2019.
The music is going to some pretty wild places and it’s going to be awesome once all released!
(The production of Mix 3 songs caused me to want to re-do 1 and 2. Mix 1 and Mix 2 songs with new vocals, re-arranged versions of songs in some cases, new guitar sound and re-produced drum beats will be released in January 2019 as well. I’ll be replacing out current versions of these 2 EP’s on all the e-stores.)
