Texas based band Deeper Vileness is a an obscure black metal / dark ambient band, founded in 2014. The band seeks to explore the darkest realms of music possible.
In this interview spotlight, I chat with the band about their music, technology, challenges and more.
Full Q&A along with links and music below.
Where are you from and what style of music do you create? (In your own words, not necessarily in marketing terms or by popular genre classifications.)
The band is from Texas and we do not really have a genre, it’s sort of a mix of dark ambient music and metal with a plethora of influence from Noise.
What led you down this path of music and what motivates you to keep going?
Nothing in particular, music is one of the best expressions of art so it is almost like a must along with the other forms of art I personally create, such as drawings or short film.
How is this new release different than previous ones? Were you trying to accomplish anything specific?
This is the first release to have proper mixing and studio equipment, it represents a shift towards the beginning of a new era for the band and the end of the old era of it. The band wasn’t trying to accomplish anything specific however we were concerned we should release something due to the band not putting anything out in years.
Prior to the release I personally had been experimenting with guitar sounds and a sort of way to place lead and rythm tracks in this sort of “new style” as I call it that will be featured in the bands next demos and moving forward in general. At this point in time I believe this “new style” is Deeper Vileness true sound and the base I want to build all future releases upon, so it is very exciting to be debuting it soon.
What are the band’s plans for the next 6-12 months? More music? Shows? What can we expect?
The band is finally going to be live instead of just a studio project and we plan to play a few live shows in the South Texas area. In the next months we will be putting out a hand full of demos, possibly another EP, as well as making our first EP publicly available as the original release is limited to 7 physical copies. Expect a very active Deeper Vileness.
Name one or two challenges you face as an indie musician in this oversaturated, digital music age? How has technology helped you (since we know it does help)?
- 1. Finding people to play with live, and 2. Finding an audience, even online. Technology has given us an online platform but it hasn’t really helped the band really get any recognition to be honest.
What was the last song you listened to?
Some Ambient music playing in the background right now.
Which do you prefer? Vinyl? CDs? MP3s?
For some reason Cassette tapes….. I don’t know why.
How about this one…. Do you prefer Spotify? Apple Music? Bandcamp? Or something else? Why?
Bandcamp is my favorite website online for music so far. It’s just a nice way to catalog ones releases and is very customizable.
Where is the best place to connect with you online and discover more music?
Definitely the Bandcamp page.
