Full Q&A along with links and music below.
Where are you from and what style of music do you create? (In your own words, not necessarily in marketing terms or by popular genre classifications.)
From San Francisco CA (Bay Area) currently living in Los Angeles CA. My music style I would say is Alternative Indie-Pop Rock infused with a variety of different genres including Folk, Synth pop, Classic Rock, Psychedelic rock and so on.
What led you down this path of music and what motivates you to keep going?
I was first drawn to music for the way it makes me feel. Any song can make you feel a variety of strong emotions at any point in time and bring you back to the moment it was created. Music brings people together in incredible ways. I started learning and writing music a few years ago pretty much simultaneously. I’ve always been fascinated at how it makes me and those around me feel. Along that journey it became a great way to express my own thoughts and emotions and I think because people connect with that it helps me come out of my shell and continue to grow. What motivates me is that there’s always new music to be discovered both internally and externally. Life is unpredictable in so many unique ways, but art and music help me see the beauty in it all.
How is this new release different than previous ones? Were you trying to accomplish anything specific?
This is my first ever release. I guess what I was trying to accomplish was a professional sound that represented each song well and spoke to people in a unique way that I think the lyrics and melody do. I really just wanted something that sounded good and represented each individual song well.
Name one or two challenges you face as an indie musician in this oversaturated, digital music age? How has technology helped you (since we know it does help)?
One of the main challenges I’ve faced has been balancing between my genuine love for music and creativity in relation to trying to market myself as a musician. I think no matter what marketing can take away from the genuine side of music when you’re trying to appease to people, but at the same time it’s necessary. But still that balance has been the hardest for me so far. Technology, in my case, has made everything easier and more accessible. Whether it’s listening, writing, playing, producing, marketing ect. There’s pretty much an endless amount of tools at my disposal to learn and grow as a musician. With that being said it comes with an expectation that if these tools are easily accessible then there’s no excuse not to use them.
What was the last song you listened to?
‘Your Power’ By Billie Eilish
Which do you prefer? Vinyl? CDs? MP3s?
Vinyl 😉
How about this one…. Do you prefer Spotify? Apple Music? Bandcamp? Or something else? Why?
Spotify. It has easy access to all my favorite music, is simple enough to use, and also helps me to discover new music that I enjoy but may not have discovered otherwise.
