Chloey Rose is an act on the rise. Drawing inspiration from Kate Bush and Taylor Swift, Chloey recently released a brand new single, ‘Golden Sun’.
‘Golden Sun’ is a spellbinding acoustic-pop summer ballad that is both soothing and uplifting in equal measure. Co-written by Chloey Rose and Harry David, the track has a classic epic quality that can only be arrived at by years of honing a craft, the refrain ‘Step right out of my life into the golden sun” tugging on the heart strings with each aching repeat as the track grows. Irresistible in its nostalgia and shining melodies, ‘Golden Sun’ is a track that will appeal to pop lovers as well as those looking for new soul stirring acoustic melancholy to add to their Spotify playlists.
In this interview spotlight, I chat with Chloey about the new music, motivations, musical memories and more.
Full Q&A along with links and music below.
What’s something you’d like readers to know about your latest project?
‘Golden Sun’ is a favourite out of all my releases so far, crazily I co-wrote this song in one evening, I felt like this song was kind of meant to be written. Sounds Cliché! Ha. I currently co-write with my musician friend Harry David who produces the music we write together. I remember I was humming the melody whilst Harry was playing the acoustic guitar and I started singing the Chorus of “Golden Sun…. Sun..’ and we both turned to each other, and we said Ooh this sounds good ha! We knew at that moment we had the makings of a good song! It has a real summer vibe to the lyrics and the music! I feel this song will appeal to pop lovers looking for acoustic music to add to their playlists. I can imagine people enjoying listening to the track whilst on holiday or just chilling.
How does this project compare with your other release(s)? Was there anything specific you were trying to accomplish?
Compared to my other releases similarly to Butterfly, I feel this track is really uplifting with the intention of leaving you feeling happy and positive. Many of my tracks have focused on the ups and downs of love, relationships, and the frustrations of disappointments we can encounter in our lives and how to remain hopeful. Golden Sun is very much a breath of fresh air, I’d describe it as soulful, soothing, uplifting, and a sunny record. I really want people to feel uplifted by the song, become the best version of themselves and who they aspire to be. The song is about having self-belief in what you can achieve, and if you are brave and keep trying to realise your dreams. I am hoping the lyrics will tell the listeners not to be afraid to step out of their fears which might hold them back and walk forward stepping out ‘into the Golden Sun’. I feel the song signifies hope and change and I can imagine listeners enjoying this track whilst on holiday, just chilling or on a road trip. It would be incredible to have this track in the background of a film or tv series or even to reach more renowned radio stations which would be a dream come true!
What motivates you to create music?
Music motivates me in so many ways, I love creating music that will mean something to someone and hope that it will inspire and help others. I feel music can take you to a totally different place, it can take you through a roller coaster of emotions depending on what you are listening to and there is nothing else quite like it. With every song I write I always find myself intending to share a message with the world, I tend to write about stories I’ve heard or things I’ve experienced and through that I reiterate the power in self-belief.
What’s one of your first or most powerful music memories? Did that play any role in driving you to create?
I was previously selected to attend the UK International Song-writing Festival held in Scotland, alongside 24 participants across the globe and it was an amazing experience. I shared moments with a lot of talented musicians and songwriters who were from different parts of the world and was given the opportunity to work with internationally acclaimed songwriters. This taught me the drive and determination to continue progressing in my singing and song writing and never give up.
If you could collaborate with anyone – dead or alive, famous or unknown – who would it be and why? If it’s an indie/DIY artist, please include a link so readers can check them out.
I would love to collaborate with Kate Bush! Wow what a voice! I know she is being highly recognised now through the TV Series Stranger things! I have been obsessed with her music since my dad introduced her to me when I was a little girl. She is so theatrical, unusual, and unique which makes stand out against many artists! I love that she is not afraid to be quirky different in her performances, she always has such an emotive story to tell through lyrics depending on the characters she portrays in her music videos. Kate can sometimes appear a total mystery and she is such a unique artist. I also am a massive fan of Ben Howard, Lewis Capaldi, Sam Fender, and Tom Speight! It would be an honour to duet with one of these artists!
What was the last song you listened to? And who is one of your favourite all-time bands/artists?
Last song I listened to was Running Up That Hill by Kate Bush, it’s a popular track and it gave me the perfect excuse to post a music cover of this recently. I absolutely love Amy Winehouse as well! Wow what a talent she was! To me she will always be one of the best female artists and I Love to cover her songs.
If you asked me to pick out one male singer who has longevity with their music and whom I admire for their voice and great talent then to me it’s Sting, he greatly influenced my musical taste when growing up and I loved to sing ‘Fields of Gold’ in talent competitions when small.
