Full Q&A along with links and music below.
Where are you from and what style of music do you create?
I was born in New York City but have spent the past several years writing and recording in Nashville, Tennessee. As a songwriter, I tend to focus on the songwriting aspect of any kind of music I listen to, so I appreciate good songs whether in the pop, urban or country genre, although my love is modern country music. I write songs about my life and the things that people my age and I experience, and my hope is that others can relate to it.
What led you down this path of music and what motivates you to keep going?
I have been singing almost since I started to talk. I was inspired to start playing guitar and writing songs after seeing “Hannah Montana: The Movie” for my 8th birthday. When I first started to learn some guitar chords I spent whole days playing until I mastered the process of holding my fingers down for the chords to “Butterfly Fly Away.” My passion for music is the reason I’ve been doing it for so long; I can’t imagine doing anything else.
How is this new release different than previous ones? Were you trying to accomplish anything specific?
I’m really excited about this new release “LYING” because it was a very personal song for me. I worked with an amazing producer in Nashville, Jon Stark, who has very cutting-edge creative ideas that I really like. Together we bring the songs to life in a modern way that hopefully the Generation Z audience for country music will enjoy!
Name one or two challenges you face as an indie musician in this over-saturated, digital music age? How has technology helped you (since we know it does help)?
While this digital music age has made it easier and less expensive to record and gain access to an audience, it has also become more difficult to get noticed than it used to be with all the competition for people’s attention. I have been lucky to have some of my songs like LYING placed on prominent Spotify playlists and several of my songs have been featured in television shows like “FORGET YOUR NAME” which was featured in the 100th episode of “Nashville” (CMT). My songs have been streamed in countries I’ve never been to (yet), and that wouldn’t be possible without the help of modern technology.
Where is the best place to connect with you online and discover more music?
You can find my new song LYING, and all of my music, on Apple music, iTunes, Spotify, GooglePlay, Shazam and most other streaming services. My Instagram, FaceBook and Twitter are all under Chloe Collins music! Just google me and you will find whatever source you prefer.
Anything else before we sign off?
Thank you so much for the chance to do this interview and for helping me promote my new single “LYING” – and thanks for listening to my music!
