Anastasia Elliot approaches her entire music career with nothing but the bigger picture in mind. Like a painter standing in front of a canvas, she views everything with a “whole world or nothing” mentality. One part singer-songwriter, one-part visual artist she cannot feel satisfied until she has created an entire immersive universe for her listeners; casting broad auditory strokes of symphonic pop-rock, then mixing them harmoniously with mind-bending visuals. Everything is meticulously planned to ensure optimal delivery of her vision. Her current masterpiece, forthcoming LP “La Petite Mort” is a testament to that state of mind.
In this interview spotlight, I chat with Anastasia about the latest music, memories, dream collaborations and more.
Full Q&A along with links and music below.
What’s something you’d like readers to know about your latest project?
I am currently in the middle of releasing my debut visual album, La Petite Mort. My latest single, London, is the third track off of the record. I would love for readers to know that this is so much more than an album or collection of singles. I have spent many years creating an experience that takes my audience on a journey through time, space, and sound. The end result being inner reflection and a new sense of self awareness. This album is all about the personal deaths and resurrections that we experience in our lives. Love, loss, trauma, healing, rediscovery. There are many easter eggs hidden in these interconnected songs and visuals that I challenge you to discover.
How does this project compare with your other release(s)? Was there anything specific you were trying to accomplish?
Aside from a few cover songs and one single not on the album, this is my only release. When I set out to create this album, I wanted to do something different and intricate and I knew that that would take a lot of time to pull off my ultimate vision. I wanted to accomplish exactly what I had in my mind and not make any sacrifices due to resources or time. I wanted to create something that required a little work from the audience to discover… something that unfolded with more searching.
What motivates you to create music?
Money and groupies. HAHA. just kidding.. I have always created music. I don’t know what life would even be like without it. Music is a part of my soul and who I am. I get excited to make big projects and concept albums. I just began writing my second album and it is another concept album. The idea of creating something greater than individual songs excites me and pushes me. I love seeing and hearing how a small idea can grow into something that has so much life.
What’s one of your first or most powerful music memories? Did that play any role in driving you to create?
My first distinct music memory is when I was around 5 years old and I went to see Don Carlos at the Houston Grand Opera. They put the performance on to honor my grandfather’s passing. I remember being so drawn to the dark and dramatic music. I definitely think my exposure to the opera and symphony as a child and the theatrical nature of those performances has played a role in the dramatic experiences I strive to create for my audience.
If you could collaborate with anyone – dead or alive, famous or unknown – who would it be and why? If it’s an indie/DIY artist, please include a link so readers can check them out.
There are so many people I could make an answer to this question. For today, I am going to pick someone alive and a little off the wall. I would love to see what my brain would create with Kanye West. (or whatever he is calling himself these days). I think we would make something so cool and different and I know it would be an epic project.
What was the last song you listened to? And who is one of your favorite all-time bands/artists?
The last song I listened to was Sweeter Than You by Ricky Nelson. My partner makes me mixes all the time and I just loved this old song from his latest mix.
I love listening to older music. Kate Bush, Annie Lennox, Pat Benatar. The power vocalists of the 80s.

I really appreciate Your time. Anything else before we sign off?
Thank you so much for the interview! I learned today that the people who do the voices of Mickey and Minnie mouse got married in real life. I feel like that is something worth knowing.
