New Jersey based singer/songwriter I am Curbie has arrived with his latest album, Better Late Than Forever, featuring a collection of 13 acoustic driven, indie pop-rockin’ tracks that are guaranteed to engage, stimulate and keep you listening for the album’s duration.
With a strong history of playing in different bands, I am Curbie eventually found the journey of the solo artist his new creative path. Planning on calling himself Curbie (a nickname from his father), the universe had a different plan. When the show promoter at his first gig asked him his name, Curbie naturally answered, “I am Curbie”. When he noticed the promoter had listed him on the bill as “I am Curbie“, Curbie took it as a sign and let the name stick.
With all the ranting that occurs on social media, I am Curbie decided he would channel his ranting energy into music. Anytime he found himself ready to rant on social media, he decided to turn it into the theme of a new song. Speaking on the songs he chose for Better Late Than Forever, Curbie says,
A lot of these songs are among the first thing I ever wrote. Some of them are about drinking and pissing your friends and family off and then some are about finding out I was going to be a Dad and being welcoming of the life changing responsibilities that lay ahead. It pretty much runs the gamut of all the thoughts and experiences I’ve gone through writing the past 5 plus years.”
The fact I cannot choose a favorite song from these 13 is a testament to the strength and consistency of I am Curbie’s songwriting. If you dig acoustic driven rock with a pop appeal, then you are going to really dig I am Curbie and the entire Better Late Than Forever album.
I will mention that I really like the guitar melody and the energy on the song Currents. Something about it just resonates deep down.
