“I wanted to turn you onto Toronto based Dinah Thorpe and her new album Lullabies and Wake Up Calls.
Her unusual style has been described as alternative indie folk pop but I feel she is a fascinating figure, who like a lot of truly original artists, defies easy categorization.”
I’ve only heard a little so far, but I love this girl’s voice and the sounds and feel are a perfect fit to lift my mood, today!
From the striking cover image to the gilt-edged music inside, all signs point to her new album, Lullabies and Wake-Up Calls, making even bigger waves. Thorpe initially envisioned Lullabies and Wake-Up Calls her third full-length – as a two-disc album; one spare and quiet, the other dense and loud. As the writing process developed, however, Thorpe found some songs resisting one category or the other, so the tracks were condensed into one disc that is an exercise in beautiful contradiction.
Hold a place for Dinah Thorpe, you’ll be glad you did!
