Susan Cattaneo‘s fourth album, Haunted Heart, has already been labeled as a Top 50 album by The Alternate Root. With that said, we can assume the quality of this record is more than “Worth The Whiskey”.
Growing up on a farm in Jersey, spending her summers on a ranch in Arizona, and singing six-part harmony with her family around the campfires; Susan began her journey through music at an early age.
During her college years, she performed in many NYC clubs while pursuing a career in television. She just happens to be an Emmy-nominated writer/producer and has won the NY State Broadcasters Award.
Now she’s pursuing music full time.
Spending a number of years raising 2 children while songwriting in the Nashville trenches, Cattaneo returned to performing in 2009. Since, she has released 3 records, toured the U.S. and Italy, and her songs have received spins from radio stations across the planet. She has charted on The Americana Chart, Music Row Chart, and the European Country Chart.
On top of all this, she has shared stages with names such as Amy Grant, David Wilcox, Travis Tritt, and Huey Lewis and the News.
Holding a position as a songwriting professor at Berklee College of Music, it’s safe to say Susan is a master of her craft.
“I’m a songwriting geek, I appreciate the work that goes into creating a song. Great songwriters have an authentic point of view, but they are also artisans, masters of the craft. I’m proud that my songs have something to say, and that they are carefully crafted.”
The organic, rootsy, soulful vibes of Haunted Heart are perfect for fans of Bonnie Raitt, Patty Griffin, Lucinda Williams, or Emmylou Harris. For Susan, writing and producing this record has been quite the liberating experience.
“Haunted Heart is really personal for me. I’ve spent time in Nashville, writing for others. I enjoyed that, and a lot of those songs found their way onto my previous records. This is the first album where I wrote every song for myself. And it was amazingly liberating.”
An interesting back story involves Ms. Cattaneo saving the life of a woman who was critically injured in her kitchen. Although the experience ended happily, it had a lasting effect on Susan’s psyche.
“I felt like I’d been marked by this event, and for six months following the accident, Post-Traumatic-Stress Disorder (PTSD) became a part of my life,” says Susan.
Susan, thanks for sharing your Haunted Heart. I see it touching many more souls as time passes.
