With airplay on over 100 stations across North America, there’s not much more I can say about how the Happy Curmudgeons album Meant 2 Be jams!
Organized by Dave Hamilton, Happy Curmudgeons is a group of seasoned and high caliber musical talent including: Dave on vocals, acoustic and electric guitars, Jeff Warner handling vocals, acoustic and electric guitars as well as mandolin, the sweet vocals of Amy Dixon-Lavery and, last but not least, Jay “Tumbleweed” Burrs on harmonica.
Although those individuals make up the core of the group, also contributing to Meant 2 Be is bassists Takashi Iio, Keith Leonard, Shawn Ramsey and Dylan Hornsby. Rick Beamon provided drums. Nate Harasim tickled the ivories on his keyboard and Yamaha piano. Jeff Taboloff delivered the saxophone spice and Marlow Ray Moran provided vocal talent on the song Burn Sugar Burn. All eleven tracks featured on Meant 2 Be were written or co-written by Dave Hamilton.
With eleven tracks putting the group’s musical chemistry on full display, Meant 2 Be treats us to a sonic journey through a range of styles that stretches from classic rock-esque jams to songs with a more vintage pop-rock edge and songs that lean more toward the folk and folk rock categories.
Songs like Burn Sugar Burn summon nostalgia for late nights I spent working on Front Street in Panama City Beach with classic rock radio blaring the entire time. Other songs have similar effects but the most important takeaway is to know that Meant 2 Be is as much a refreshing throwback to an era of classic vibes as it is a modern album full of music that true lovers can really appreciate.
In simpler terms, if you love rock and folk music that hints back to the music of the ’60s and ’70s while incorporating elements of the golden era of ’90s alternative rock then Meant 2 Be and Happy Curmudgeons will provide your sonic fix.
