After spending the last week driving through California, Nevada and Utah bumping classic Hip Hop on XM radio (while on tour with The Great Peso131 of The Fearless Four), I have to say that Chad Carman‘s new project Haphazard Hazmats HipHop Powerplant is a familiar and welcome Hip Hop record.
Falling closer to the alternative/experimental side of the spectrum, Chad’s new album maintains a classic, lo-fi, NYC mixtape feel from beginning to end. I’m loving it!
If I didn’t know any better I would think I’m still cruising down the freeway bumping classic Hip Hop on XM.
Although I don’t know too much about the man or the artist Chad Carman, I can assure you he knows his Hip Hop and this collection of eight tracks captures a spirit and a vibe that has long been missing from newer releases in this genre.
From track 1 “16 Throwback” to the finale “Mysterious Escapades”, you will be nodding and grooving through a non-stop, well blended, masterfully mixed sonic journey of funky, lo-fi awesomeness.
Acting as Producer, Sampler, DJ, Engineer and Visual Artist for this proejct, Carman holds true to the DIY ethos we truly appreciate here at MTM. Chad is a one man band…or should I say a Hip Hop Powerplant!
Haphazard Hazmats HipHop Powerplant is a seamless, engaging, infectious album you can turn on and just play from beginning to end. You’ll be nodding your head, moving your body, and getting funky in no time!
