Foresteater is the moniker and band of Singer/Songwriter/Multi-Instrumentalist Mikey Pro from Phoenix, USA. Created in 2015 after a dream he had about “a band playing on an island in outer-space with electric rainbows everywhere” Foresteater’s debut EP “Nightlife of the Exploding Heads” was released May 6th 2016. It’s difficult to place Foresteater’s music in one Genre but it can be described as “Melodramatic songs with psychedelic harmonies under catchy melodies.”
In this interview spotlight, we chat with Foresteater about influences, their new project, and more.
Q&A, links, and a stream of Very Friendly People below.
Let’s dive a little deeper into You, the artist and your music. What attracted you to this genre(s) or style(s)?
I wanted to create something unique but familiar. I tried to incorporate several different genre’s and styles into something “Indie/Alternative” like. I would describe Foresteater’s music as an instrumental culmination of carefully chosen intricacies from many different styles of music; Folky, melodramatic, rhythmic acoustic guitars mixed with half asleep, grungy electrics; A deep bass paired with punchy locked in drums; All topped with a high floating lead vocal joined by multiple and frequent psychedelic harmonies.
What led you into this journey with music? And further, what drives you to push it out to the public?
I’ve been on the journey of songwriting for a long time but what led me to Foresteater was a dream I had about a band playing on an island in outer-space with electric rainbows everywhere. I can’t be certain about what drives me to get my music to the public, but if I had to guess it probably has something to do with a subconscious yearning to feel understood by others in a very personal way while still being at a distance.
Who or what influences your creativity? Have your tastes in music changed over time?
I think my creativity is influenced by everything wonderful and horrible all at once. For instance Nature is one very big good influence while Hypocrisy is a common bad influence. I make it my point to change my tastes in music often. If I get stuck listening to the same type of music for to long It gets hard for me to be inspired; I’m always trying to stay as inspired as possible.
Were you trying to accomplish anything specific on this new project? Creatively or otherwise?
I wanted to make music that gives a certain feeling that can’t be put into words but still exists. I think there are emotions that we feel but don’t have words for; so creatively i tried to swim in a sea these unnamed emotions.
What was the last song you listened to?
The Twilight Zone song.
Which do you prefer? Vinyl? CDs? MP3s?
My favorite thing to do is listen to high quality recordings on high quality headphones
How about this one…. Do you prefer Spotify? Apple Music? Bandcamp? Or something else? Why?
Spotify, Soundcloud and High Quality wav files.
Other than the digital era overwhelming us with access to an abundance of music, what is the biggest challenge you face when trying to connect with or find new fans?
It’s so hard to get people to actually sit down and listen! There are so many artist trying to get their music heard and i feel like people are just sick of it or something. I don’t know, that’s why i’m always so grateful when someone gives the music an honest listen it really does mean so so much.
Where is the best place to connect with you online? Discover more music?
Foresteater.com has all of our social media links so that’s the best. I am trying to get more involved with posting on all of them.
Anything else you’d like to add before signing off?
Thanks to anyone who has listened or will listen. It means the world. I’d also like to add that Foresteater is going to release more music, tour, and more. Thanks to Middle Tennessee Music for the interview.
