Essex (UK) band Figures is set to release their new project Unravel on November 15th but this group of high quality musicians was cool enough to send us an advance copy.
Delivering a jammin’ 4 songs in the spirit of ’90s hard and alternative rock, Figures’ progressive sound is akin to a more light-hearted version of the Deftones but with the pop appeal that makes me think of something between Radiohead and Coldplay.
Opening the record with the nicely titled track “Wigourney Seaver”, Figures lays down the foundation for their unique blend of frequencies.
The bass groove immediately jumps out and grabs you. The polished, powerful vocals lead the way through an excellent mix of rockin’ drums, distorted guitar lines matched with the gentle, melodic tones of a clean electric; and all of it accented with aptly placed percussion and properly positioned sound effects.
The next 3 tracks just keep pulling you in deeper into the ambient musical space created by Figures. If these guys aren’t on rock radio yet, someone needs to make that happen.
Formed in early 2014 in an Essex bedroom with a drum kit and a practice amp, Figures started piecing together what are now some of their biggest crowd pleasers. Drawing influences from the distorted riffs of Biffy Clyro to the obscurities and progressions of The Mars Volta, Figures are rapidly crafting their own identity with head-nodding grooves, lucid movement between genres, intriguing effects pedals and surprising turns at every corner. Although just a three-piece – consisting of George Berry (guitar/vocals), Jake Stonebrook (drums) and Jack Stevenson (bass/backing) – the trio boasts a huge sound.”
Unravel will be available on November 15th. Connect with the band on FB or Twitter. Visit their website for the latest and greatest.
