Let’s dive a little deeper into You, the artist and your music. What attracted you to this genre(s) or style(s)?
I guess just in general for me, I always identified with the type of music we play because lyrically I just identified with it. I never quite fit in with a particular group at school. I sucked at sports, so I didn’t fit in with the jocks, I was a loner with my own ideals. A lot of the music we listen to has a lot to say about being who you are, and being proud of where you came from. Musically, there was just something about it that I loved. Something that wrapped around me and wouldn’t let go.
How long have you been creating and sharing your music with the public?
As a band, we started in Spring 2012. We started originally as an acoustic project. We knew that we wanted to make it a full band eventually. Which finally happened about a year after that. We haven’t looked back since.
Who or what influences your playing and/or writing? Also, what motivates you to keep going?
I think in general we are influenced by life. What we go through in our worlds, comes out in our music. We are all influenced by certain bands. Green Day, A7x, Blink, MxPx, Mest, etc… but i think in general, it’s just life that pushes us. It’s trying to get better as musicians every day. I think what keeps us going is that we have nothing to lose. There is no backup plan for us. What pushes us is everyone say we can’t do it. At least the way we want to do it.
Were you trying to accomplish anything specific on this new project? Creatively or otherwise?
Not really. Other than, I think we wanted to top Part One. We wanted to look back and be proud of our record, and think we have accomplished that. We went through hell making this record so I think we wanted to just make it out alive.
What was the last song you listened to?
Lost by Avenged Sevenfold
Which do you prefer? Vinyl? CDs? MP3s?
I guess I prefer CDs. All have their benefits. You can’t beat the sound of vinyl and warmth listening to a record has. CD’s have sentimental value. There is nothing like opening a CD. Looking at the cover art, smelling that paper and exploring how the record was made. Mp3 is merely a convience. You can’t listen to a vinyl record while you are working out.
How about this one…. Do you prefer Spotify? Apple Music? Bandcamp? Or something else? Why?
Personally I prefer Spotify. It’s just a really great way to create your own playlists, and I like the discover weekly feature. That’s a cool way to find new bands, which is something I love doing.
Other than the digital era overwhelming us with access to an abundance of music, what are one or two of the biggest challenges you face when trying to attract listeners to your music?
Sticking out. There is such an over saturation of bands, especially in So Cal. They are all on iTunes, and Spotify. It’s a challenge to stick out and show people why we are worth listening to.
Do you gig, tour or perform? Do you ever live stream? Where can music lovers see you live?
We actually leave at the end of August for a small west coast tour. The plan is to then do another small tour around Halloween in support of our new EP. We live stream all the time at our practice. You just have to go on Facebook and “like” us and you won’t have to wait to long before you see it. The best way you can find out about any of our upcoming events is Facebook. We post videos on our YouTube channel too Youtube.com/DreamsofVertigo
Where is the best place to connect with you online? Discover more of your music?
I would say either Spotify or iTunes would be the best way to hear the latest we have. You can interact with the band via our Facebook: Facebook.com/DreamsofVertigo
