I’m a big fan of instrumental albums. Especially when they are as epic, moving and undeniably emotive like the new project from dep, We Are The Lights That Will Not Go Out.
North Carolina based dep is the solo project of Danny Peck who has spoken about the structure of electronic music at TEDx and also performed at the Moog Factory in Bob Moog’s home of Asheville. Danny wrote, recorded, produced and mastered everything on this new album. The artwork for this release comes courtesy of Hangmoon.
When asked about the album, dep had this to say,
I wanted to make something to give people hope. I think music can be an instrument of catharsis, and if I can help one person find some sort of release in this crazy world, that’s my release too.”
We Are The Lights That Will Not Go Out is an 8-track sonic voyage through cinematic, ambient, emotive soundscapes that I can personally guarantee will push, pull, bend, fold, mold and tug on every single emotional string possible. This music will stir your soul, give you goosebumps, make your hair stand up on end and cause rushes of metaphysical energy to course through your aura. It’s powerful!
In other words, this is one of the most intricately crafted, introspective and hauntingly beautiful collections of songs I have had come across my inbox in quite some time.
dep is a master at creating music that moves you.
With all the flowery language that exists to describe such epic works of art, the simplest way for me to convey the potency and impact of We Are The Lights That Will Not Go Out is to say it moves you…deep down.
