London based creative wizard (composer, keyboard player, producer, songwriter, improvior, sound-designer, video artist, label director) Daniel Biro has released his latest project 120 Onetwenty featuring one hour of enchanting, mystifying, captivating soundscapes created over the course of six years using a suite of vintage keyboards.
Infused with an array of stylistic influences, 120 Onetwenty runs the gamut from jazz-rock fusion to progressive experimental rock to ambient minimalist composition which is further enhanced by Biro’s Hungarian background and a fine mix of European cultural influences.
Acquiring his first analogue synth at age 12, Biro has been hooked on electronic music ever since. Working as a composer with local theatre companies, Biro was able to flex his creative muscles while forming various experimental bands. Once he moved to London, Biro found himself touring with major labels bands such as The Truth and Big Bam Boo. He then founded Sargasso (1993) which is a record label promoting experimental music.
Having collaborated with choreographers, film makers, gallery artists and working on an array of projects as writer and producer, Biro has plenty of valuable experience creating soundscapes for a wide range of occasions and purposes. On top of all this, he has managed to release 12 albums as a solo artist and with his bands Mysteries of the Revolution and Echo Engine.
It is also worth nothing that Biro studied under cult jazz figure Roger Grosjean for eight years while performing on the squares of villages in the South of France with the Jazz Conservatory of Monaco big-band. While traveling with the group, Biro acquired a Rhodes electric piano which still holds his passion and is partly responsible for Biro’s very distinct, signature sound.
Listening through the new album, 120 Onetwenty, is an experience. One that uses sounds, rhythms and melodies to paint vivid sonic images of mystifying, cosmic worlds filled with wonder, reflection and adventure. This hour long piece of cinematic art captures the attention, stimulates the senses, and fully engages the mind.
Biro’s portfolio of work with film and TV speaks volumes for his ability to capture listeners and paint lucid soundscapes. That portfolio includes work with the BBC, feature documentaries for French national TV, a number of award-winning shorts (Cannes, Strasbourg, London), and the score for Rwandan director Kivu Ruhorahoza’s surreal film ‘Things of the Aimless Wanderer’ which was an official selection at Sundance, Rotterdam, Sydney and London Film Africa festivals (in 2015).
120 Onetwenty is available from Amazon, iTunes, Spotify and CD Baby.
