Dan Lowe has always had a real knack for storytelling, and his latest single “Creatures of the Radio” is no exception.
A heartland rock anthem with echoes of Bruce Springsteen and Tom Petty, this song is a love letter to the golden era of radio. A time when the crackle of the dial could transport listeners to another world.
With rich instrumentation, driving rhythms and a soaring saxophone courtesy of Patrick Lamb, “Creatures of the Radio” is both nostalgic and refreshingly alive.
Listen here:
Inspired by a Bruce Springsteen interview on Fresh Air show, where Springsteen referred to himself and his bandmates as “creatures of the radio,” Lowe found himself drawn to the phrase. Having grown up in Alaska, where radio was not just entertainment but a lifeline to the world, he quickly turned the concept into a song. The track leans into the classic E Street Band sound, capturing that same sense of freedom and possibility that only rock and roll can deliver.
Recorded as part of an “Artist in Residence” program with producer Dean Baskerville, this track has benefited from a unique studio process. Students at Baskerville’s digital audio program played a key role in tracking and mixing, giving the song a raw energy that’s often missing in modern productions.
Lowe says:
“The recording process itself was kind of cool and unique, too: my co-producer Dean Baskerville, has – among other things – put in lots of time as a Digital Audio professor, and so I was honored to be one of his “Artists In Residence” so to speak – which meant that their final class project was tracking and mixing a song I brought in, and so “Creatures Of The Radio” is one of those – which gave it a bit more of a live performance feel than just working solo or as a pair in the studio, which was cool!”

But “Creatures of the Radio” isn’t the only reason Lowe is making headlines recently.
He recently advanced to the next round of Tennessee Songwriters Week, after a standout performance at the February 1st qualifying round at Motif on Music Row. Selected from a competitive group of 11 songwriter Lowe will perform at the Franklin Theatre on March 1st, with hopes of securing a coveted spot at the legendary Bluebird Cafe in Nashville.
“Creatures Of The Radio” is the first of a set of tracks planned to be released monthly during 2025 – capping it off with the release of the full album (also titled “Creatures Of The Radio”) to coincide with the final December track release.
This is the follow-up to “No Running From The Storm (Songs Of Life, Love, And Loss)” – the previous release by Dan Lowe & The Skeletal Remains.
With “Creatures of the Radio” kicking off a yearlong release schedule leading up to a full-length album, and his songwriting gaining recognition in one of Nashville’s most respected competitions, Lowe is proving that he is not just a musician, but a skilled songwriter and storyteller with a deep love for the craft.
