Full Q&A, links, and a stream of Full of Texas below.
Let’s dive a little deeper into You, the artist and your music. What attracted you to this genre(s) or style(s)?
Comrad: Lots of singer songwriters like Paul Simon, Ani Difranco. Jazz musicians like Bill Evans, Errol Garner, Thelonious Monk. Also, not for their music, although coincidentally they do both play music, Steve Martin and Woody Allen. I love their movies! The general feel they create and the dialogue is awesome. That being said, I don’t really think about genre when I’m writing, I can’t imagine many do.
How long have you been creating and sharing your music with the public?
Comrad: I guess since college. Me and a friend of mine had a duo called Down&A. The band name came from the game super smash bros., we were really into Samus and pleasant guitar melodies.
Were you trying to accomplish anything specific on this new project? Creatively or otherwise?
Comrad: I don’t think I was trying to accomplish something specific. Initially all I wanted was to hear my music sound professional. As we kept going through the process I decided I might as well make an effort and get the music out there. Promotion and playing out was an afterthought.
What was the last song you listened to?
Comrad: Eryn Allen Kane – Piano Song, I’m obsessed with this whole album, she’s a superhero.
Which do you prefer? Vinyl? CDs? MP3s?
Comrad: MP3s.
How about this one…. Do you prefer Spotify? Apple Music? Bandcamp? Or something else? Why?
Comrad: Spotify
Other than the digital era overwhelming us with access to an abundance of music, what are one or two of the biggest challenges you face when trying to attract listeners to your music?
Comrad: Being able to get that initial listen. There’s so much music out there, to get someone to take 3 minutes to listen to yours seems impossible sometimes.
Do you gig, tour or perform? Do you ever live stream? Where can music lovers see you live?
Comrad: I’m going to be performing more starting towards the end of this year. I’ll have all my show dates on my website, Comradmusic.com and across all my social media outlets as well.
Where is the best place to connect with you online? Discover more of your music?
Comrad My website, Comradmusic.com, facebook, twitter
Any last thoughts? Shout outs? Words of wisdom?
Comrad Shout out to Josh Sadlier-Brown for producing this EP and the new album we’re working on for next year. Not sure if they’re words of wisdom, but I am moderately against strong opinions.
