What happens when David Bowie teams up with Nick Cave and Scott Walker to create a soundtrack for Chasing The Sun?
Oliver James is what happens.
On his newest release, Chasing The Sun, Oliver James delivers an epic pop rock journey that weaves through powerful melodies; deep, insightful, yet sometimes gut wrenching lyrical expressions; and a level of songcrafting that each of us could benefit from observing.
“I called it Chasing The Sun because you simply can never catch the sun, and if you could, you’d melt. So the metaphor represents hopes, dreams, decisions and ramifications,” he says.
“Keep Breathing”, one of the most powerful songs on the album, is a tribute to those serving in the armed forces. The song is a plea for those putting themselves in harms way to keep breathing and make it back home alive.
In my opinion, the other 7 tracks are equally as powerful. There is no doubt about Oliver James ability to write, play, and craft masterpieces.
“The creative process has been great…” Oliver says. “The album was tracked at the Magic Shop in NYC (Coldplay, Norah Jones), mixed by two-time Grammy winner Trina Shoemaker (Iggy Pop, Queens Of The Stone Age), and mastered by Greg Calbi (Bob Dylan, Nick Cave).
