If this isn’t your first time reading a review on this blog, you are well aware that I am a huge fan of Brother Octopus and Oak Apple Records in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
Their new album, Sea of Champions, is a well crafted tribute to the City of Champions. Consisting of 17 tracks, Brother Octopus and Lady Friend recorded each song in a different studio – all based in Edmonton.
Using local artists, musicians, engineers, and studio rats; this duo has created a work that is a true representation of the musical and artistic talents of Edmonton.
Knowing that I’m already a fan of Brother Octopus, I won’t waste your time by telling you how awesome, polished, energetic, and fabulous this album happens to be.
Instead, I will just say I’ve been listening to this album, turned up to 11, every day for the past week during my daily 100 miles of driving.
If you happen to pull up next to me at a red light, you’d probably think I was crazy because I find myself playing air guitar, air drums, air bass, and air synth all at the same time…without being able to stop myself.
If you are annoyed by people who play really loud music in their car, you’re going to hate me when Sea of Champions is spinning.
This is a winner. Another opus in the Book of Octopus. Another impressive collection from Oak Apple Records. And another statement on the greatness of the creative energies emanating from the City of Champions.
