We get a lot of invitations to review new artists here at Mid-Tenn, and it is unfortunate that we can’t get to all of them – though we do try. I surely am glad I did not let this one
slip through the cracks.
I got an invitation from Brian Mackey the other day, and I have to say the cat has just about convinced me to buy a record. If you know me well, you know what a compliment that is.
The first place I went was to his You Tube page, then ReverbNation, My___, Facebook….let’s just say, I won’t be missing any Brian Mackey updates!
“New York City artist, Brian Mackey has not only broken the mold of a typical singer/songwriter, he’s smashed it to bits and thrown the dust into the ears of the listener, to create a new sound that captivates the soul.
His music is an eclectic mix of acoustic and synth-driven up-tempo indie rock, with a hint of americana. Originally from a tin roof town on the Northern Florida/Georgia border, his songs reflect life experiences, meshed with new found freedoms in NYC.”
Honest Love
It’s not just the title of a beautiful record, but it defines Brian’s music – Honest and straight from the heart! Brian has been featured on the Songs of Love for Japan Compilation CD among artists Sarah Barielles, Ani DiFranco and Tori Amos and his track “Color Blue” will be featured in two upcoming films in October, “Fake” with Gabriel Mann and Robert Loggia, and “Fathoms Deep”.
Are you Listening?
While on the young bard’s YouTube channel, I noticed the second song listed was a tribute for 9/11, so I had to listen. I promised myself I would just hit the play button and come right back to my writing tab. Well promises, schmomises, I sat and let my heart break as I watched the video. It’s on it’s fourth pass, now and here it is for you.
