Birds Over Arkansas is what happens when the influences of Pink Floyd, Frank Zappa, Tom Petty, The Avett Brothers and Iron & Wine align themselves with the creative spirits of Scott Haskitt (guitar, lead vocals), Laura Hartshorn (keyboards, vocals), John Mondick (guitar, vocals), Ryan Berg (drums), and Chico Huff (bass).
Welcoming the odd time signatures and technical sensibilities of Progressive Rock into their radio-ready Americana vibe, Birds Over Arkansas have created something quirky yet accessible to listeners across the board.
Their new single “Forgotten Lights” should be spinning everywhere…radio, shopping malls, elevators, you get it. It’s that tasty of a jam. It’s powerful. It has mass appeal.
In the writing process, we started realizing that we had these quirky and unorthodox ideas, and then we would edit them down until they sounded like everyone else. It was really frustrating, sort of killing our own creativity. So we started to shine a light on the quirky bits until they started to make sense in their own way.”
I’m a fan. Birds Over Arkansas just has a great sound and even better vibe.
“Forgotten Lights” is streaming on Soundcloud. You can connect with the group on FB or Twitter.
