Sibling robots crash landed in the desolate countryside of upstate New York. While being introduced to the new concepts of “adulting”, they were also exposed to “music”. There weren’t many human things that appealed to the robots other than their “music”. Finding nothing that suitably combined sounds of their extraterrestrial origins with their new home, they set forth on a quest to create their own.
In this interview spotlight, we chat with Bathrobe Robots about their influences, their music, the new project, and more.

Let’s dive a little deeper into You, the artist and your music. What attracted you to this genre(s) or style(s)?
We both listen to a wide variety of music and our top influences are all amazing live bands. We want to have grungy traditional rock and roll sensibility, but we’re also on a quest for obscure synthetic sounds that complement the organic. Being creative with the constraints of having only two people helped form a sound that we think is unique and keeps our attention. We’re trying to make something that will embrace that live rock and roll spirit that we love so much, with a more refined and unique electronic sound.
What led you into this journey with music? And further, what drives you to push it out to the public?
Devon has been writing music since he was 15, but I didn’t necessarily ever think I was a musician despite the fact that my life revolved around music and concerts. I finished my first year of college and Devon flew back from Breckenridge CO to go to Gov Ball, where we were drenched in amazing music and inspiration. Shortly after we started writing together we went camping in northern Ontario, Canada- the middle of nowhere for about a week and a half. There was a span of a few days where the weather was rainy and cold, so I mostly was in my tent. I pretty much had a choice between reading, sleeping or playing the uke. Once I played through all the songs I could remember on ukulele I started messing around and found a strumming pattern from there. I just sat there playing all of the minor and 7 chords I could and wrote until I had a song. Our inspiration to spread this to the public is driven by our own enjoyment of creating new music. This has been the most productive and enjoyable summer for us, and we’re just trying to spread some of those good feelings around with our music.
Who or what influences your creativity? Have your tastes in music changed over time?
Inspiration can be found everywhere. Nature, philosophy, art, dance, death, bands, literature, snowboarding. Everything from Cage the Elephant to Tony Robbins. We’re also extremely influenced by energetic and amazing live shows.
Has our taste in music changed?
Yes. So much yes. I used to only listen to the Beatles and Broadway musicals and Devon listed to circa survive, Hendrix, Zeppelin and Saosin. We’ve been everywhere from gangster rap to metal to indie rock. The one band that brought us together in musical harmony was The Strokes. Seeing them live definitely gave us a push to really fight our laziness and fear of failure and just be insanely creative all summer.
Were you trying to accomplish anything specific on this new project? Creatively or otherwise?
We wanted to create something we were really stoked on.
What was the last song you listened to?
Probably…Death Cab for Cutie…… Codes and keys?
Which do you prefer? Vinyl? CDs? MP3s?
CDs because they make any car ride infinitely better. Car jamming is our thing. The first step to a car ride is to select the right soundtrack.
How about this one…. Do you prefer Spotify? Apple Music? Bandcamp? Or something else? Why?
Spotify it’s interactive and they make it really easy to find new music. Sharing stuff with friends is easy, and discovering new bands is also really easy especially with the weekly playlist they have.
Other than the digital era overwhelming us with access to an abundance of music, what is the biggest challenge you face when trying to connect with or find new fans?
We’re working on putting together our live show which we see as the best way to connect with fans. For us seeing a really kick ass band live affirms our love for the band, and makes us true fans. There’s just something about a really good live show that can make or break a band for us.
Where is the best place to connect with you online? Discover more music?
Facebook has everything right now. Any news we have will be shared on Facebook. We also have Links to our EP on Soundcloud there too. If you have Questions, comments, good jokes, band suggestions, or cheese blessings email us at bathroberobots@gmail.com. Don’t be a stranger!
Anything else you’d like to add before signing off?
Don’t be afraid to start something because you never know where it’ll go. Start doing what you’re afraid of. There’s a lot of noise before music is made.
Also, we just released our first lyric video for Egyptian Annie, check it out!
