When Balance and Composure unleashed the forthcoming album’s first single “Postcard” to the world, they did so unaware that they had just prompted their fans to amplify their criticisms. Controversy swelled over the track’s heavy use of a drum machine verses live drums. While some fans were encouraging and understanding of the band’s divergence into a more varied sound, others would proclaim the death of the band at the hands of the drum machine. A handful of “Paul is dead” fan theories even surfaced and speculated drummer Bailey Van Ellis’ departure from the band.
