Christian Imes, the driving force behind Animals In Denial, delivers a raw and electrifying punch with his latest single “Coi.”
Initially written in 2003, the track has finally found its moment.
“Coi” hits hard, with the kind of dark energy that feels pulled straight from the early 2000’s with a fusion of industrial rock and electronic sounds – yet its weight is unmistakably current.
From the jump, “Coi” has mechanical rhythms and pulsing electronic sequences that build a brooding intensity, taking cues from the likes of Nine Inch Nails and Depeche Mode.
Imes layers the track with blistering guitars, recording using his Epiphone Les Paul Special 2, and a much treasured 85 Gibson Les Paul Studio. These elements cut through the electronic undercurrent, creating a textured wall of sound.
Vocally, Imes’ performance feels unfiltered and visceral. Using a Shure SM58 microphone along with some smart production techniques, he leans into the rawness of the moment, with lyrics that pull no punches.
With lyrics like “I’m sick on the in, you’re sick on the out“, it’s clear that “Coi” is fueled by the emotional aftermath of a relationship turned sour, capturing the painful disconnection between two people who couldn’t- or wouldn’t – heal together.
“Coi” doesn’t just aim to be heavy. It is hypnotic too. The production is slick, and while the bass lines were crafted with sample packs, the song still holds an energy that grabs you immediately.
With this track, Christian proves once again that Animals In Denial is not bound by any one genre or formula. Their music is personal, fearless, and always evolving.
“Coi” is now available on all streaming platforms, including Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube.
