Angela Soffe spent her childhood on a sailboat in the South China Sea where she was raised in the Philippines speaking English, Spanish and Tagalog.
As interesting as that sounds, things really get juicy when we consider Angela’s family is devout Mormons. After 30+ years, Angela recently left the religion and has written an album about the journey from community rejection through her uplifting story of recovery. After stepping away from the religion, Angela found solace in songwriting and music.
The first single, Rocks, tells the story about her journey through re-discovering herself outside the context of the Mormon faith. In Angela’s words,
This song was written while sitting on a mattress on the floor one evening, in the aftermath of leaving a religion. The song is about feeling judged on a personal level, and the judgement we each carry around for humanity as a whole. It calls for social change and greater acceptance for the people who share our planet.”
Featuring a soothing sound bed of piano, sprinkles of steel guitar, and the honest, soulful vocal performance by Angela Soffe, we are reminded to leave our rocks at home and to stop throwing them at the people who see the world differently than we do.
Obviously not afraid to grab life by the balls in order to live the life she wants to live, Angela joins the ranks of strong, independent, artistic females who refuse to let abuse and unhappiness infect their lives. She has written scripts for Marie Osmond’s radio show and still freelances, she runs a small studio where she teaches piano and voice, and, for a time, she worked as a journalist with CNN.
In other words, no religion (or anything else for that matter) can hold her down.
