“Forgive me father / wish I could say my soul was clean / there just ain’t enough water / to wash away the pain I’ve seen”
Fading in is a slow melodic strum of an acoustic guitar accompanied by soulful yet perfectly gritty vocals that loom over the production and reverberate like a church. Then the chorus comes crashing in like a wave on the shore with the percussion making its first appearance and controlled wailing of the name Angela.
“Everybody’s got a chance to fly
But I get this sinking feeling that it might have passed me by”
This story, and the thoughts of a lost and lonely man is an eyes closed, scrunched face, emotional ride. Not to mention, as the production builds, there are beautiful breaks with guitar solos and spot on horns towards the end to put a bow on this masterpiece.
