Brooding folkster Andrew Samuel releases his new EP Hissing Bitterness August 27
“Australia’s answer to Destroyer” Ripe Music Blog.
“a brooding, poetic gift of a song that reinforced that you only need two chords to write an something beautiful.” Happy.
Hissing Bitterness is the second EP from Andrew Samuel, Co-produced by Andrew Samuel and Ryan Brennan (Phantastic Furniture), this EP will be one of the simplest and most revealing releases of 2016. All of the songs are built around two chords, with minimal instrumentation and lyrics at the front and centre.
It’s a kind of proud ode to loneliness, fear and murky secrets. After recording a highly produced single earlier in the year, Andrew wanted to go back to a simpler and more organic approach.
“It’s the words or the relationship between the words that work as the melody, chorus, hook on this EP. If they don’t resonate then this will be a painful, or at least tedious, listening experience.”
Guitar sounds were all created using real reverb, recording in the hallways of Andrew’s share house with microphones spread throughout the house. Vocals were recorded alone in the bedroom and only minimal tweaks made in the studio. In every way this was the opposite of a traditional recording process.
The EP was mastered by Andrew Edgson at Studios 301.
