It’s time for a brief chat with the crew from Almost Awake, a female led alt-rock five-piece from Las Vegas.
Check out the video for their single “The Intruder” below. Scroll down for more jams, including their new album Until Tomorrow, and for the complete interview.
Introduce yourself to our readers and describe the style of music you create.
We are Almost Awake : Vick is the singer, writes songs and some rhythm guitar. Grady plays lead and rhythm guitar and writes. Gabe plays drums and sings some background vocals, Addison plays rhythm guitar and uke and Tommy plays bass and gets naked onstage sometimes. We play alternative rock type stuff. We try to make music we would actually buy.
Who or what influences your playing and/or writing styles? Also, what motivates you to keep creating?
Paramore and Pvris influence our writing the most although individually our influences range from Twenty One Pilots to Hop Along to Joe Satriani. We are motivated purely by the fact that this is what we love and we want to impact people the same way our influences impacted us.
What was the last song you listened to?
Vick: ‘Ferrari’ by The Neighbourhood
Tommy: ‘Tuesday’s Gone’ – Lynyrd Skynyrd
Grady: ‘Fichtl’s Lied’ – Diewoodys
Gabe: ‘Right Back At It Again’- A Day to Remember
Addison: ‘Wonder if You Wonder’ – Witt Lowry
Other than the digital era overwhelming us with access to an abundance of music, what are one or two of the biggest challenges you face when trying to attract listeners to your music?
For us it’s honestly the fact that people have terribly short attention spans. That and no one wants to pay for anything anymore. That presents some real challenges for bands trying to tour and create new music and still actually eat and live indoors, lol.
The upside is that there are a ton of ways to get music out there to people, so that’s also a challenge just getting everything on all these platforms and maintaining them.
Do you gig, tour or perform through any live streaming services? Where can music lovers see you perform?
We don’t really use a lot of live streaming services as of now. We’re trying to use Periscope and Facebook live stream more often, and we’re starting to experiment with DropKloud; other than that we have live videos and other good stuff on our YouTube that y’all can check out. Or just come to our shows.

Any last thoughts? Shout outs? Words of wisdom?
Thanks for having us! Shout out to moms and fams and all of our fans-we love you guys! Not a lot of wisdom in this group but we do try to live by what we call rule number one which is basically just that we put each other as people before any disagreements or business.
