Grammy nominated artist Ajay Mathur has arrived with his latest album Little Boat.
Following up on his previous releases: A Matter of Time (2011), Come See Conquer (2013) and the highly successful 9 to 3 (2015) which maintained chart rankings on US Top 50 Rock, US Top 80 Independent, US Top 50 AC and Americana (AMA) airplay charts and a 128-week run on the European Indie Music Chart, Ajay arrives with a psych-folk-rockin’ collection of 13 songs which focus on resilience and finding strength in the face of life’s challenges.
Born in India and now living in Switzerland, Ajay Mathur is a citizen of the world. Masterfully blending classic rock with Americana and psychedelic elements, Ajay shows his world citizenship by also adding influences from other regions of the planet. Led Zeppelin-esque guitars mash with Jefferson Airplane level psychedelics and Euroasian instrumentation for a sonic experience that transcends geographic location.
Starting his musical journey performing in clubs throughout New Delhi and Mumbai during the ’70s musical peak, Ajay had the honor of sharing stages with known icons such as Jimmy Page and Don Cherry as they toured India searching for spiritual enlightenment. I can only imagine the epic jam sessions that occurred during these moments!!
During the ’80s and ’90s, Mathur found success with rock band Mainstreet in Switzerland who sold out tours across Europe while hitting the Top 20 on Swiss radio charts as well as a month-long power play in Tokyo’s Hard Rock Cafe.
While I’ve been speaking about the heavy influences and blending of exotic instrumentation with classic and psychedelic rock of the classic era, Time For Deliverance is an epic jam laced with some amazingly sweet brass which puts on full display Ajay’s ability to seamlessly switch genres while staying true to his core sound. This song is so good I just went back for a repeat listen.
Little Boat is available on Spotify or Bandcamp.
